As someone who learned how to read before "Hooked on Phonics" became popular, phonics has always been interesting to me as I learned the elements of phonology after learning to speak and read two languages. Phonology expressed in this unit is a decent review of generally how we can consider the study and science of speech. Considering regional accents and first (versus second, third, fourth or otherwise) languages, phonics might be easier or more difficult to teach for some who have learned one language versus more than one just due to exercising the muscles in order to sound out words.
