Unit 9 focused on how simple, effective, and smartly planned lessons are the most effective in the classroom. Lesson plans should not be rigid scripted expectations, but rather serve as a skeleton outline for the teacher to follow. This ensures that the teacher is organized and that the student learning outcomes and objectives are kept at the forefront of the teacher's mind. Planning to engage students, allow them time to practice language structure in groups and individually, and then participate in a fun learning activity is the general structure of an effective lesson. Of course, it is always important for the teacher to gather information about what his/her students need and know, and about how the lesson went. Perhaps the most important part of lesson planning is knowing that even though you have created a plan you will need to be prepared to be flexible and adapt to misunderstandings or challenges that arise during the lesson.
