In this unit we tackle about methods of teaching English vocabulary, grammar and functions to students.
When teaching vocabulary one of the main problem is selecting which word to teach. However, there are criteria that can be used in choosing the appropriate vocabulary to teach. These are its suitability to the students and the task, its frequency and coverage, and its structure. Also, students need to know about the meaning, use, word grammar, interaction, spelling and pronunciation of the word being taught. In introducing grammatical structures, the students will need to know what the language means, how it is used, what the grammatical form is and how it is said/written. Language does not only have vocabulary and grammar; it also consists of functions. Language functions include areas such as inviting, refusing, agreeing, disagreeing, etc. It also includes the appropriateness of the language in terms of the kind of language they use.
