This Unit allows us to compare teaching techniques and behaviors that are both effective and ineffective. It was also a prime example of how something as simple as a smile can have a huge effect on your environment. Be positive and enjoy what you are doing, and students will follow likewise. Part of a teachers job is to create a space where students feel safe and excited to reach out of their comfort zone. Students should never be ridiculed for trying. Even if it was the wrong answer by trying to answer you are already farther ahead then many. This should be praised and encouraged. Also, never should the words "this is easy" leave a teachers mouth. It may be easy for you but it might not be for your students and by saying this you can discourage students significantly. Making them embarrassed to try or even participate. One should also make connections to their students. Learn their names, make sure they know each other's names, and be understanding of things that may be happening to them outside of the classroom. This allows you to open up much more. Joking around is memorable. Moments of enjoyment are memorable. Relationships are memorable. Drills upon drills are not. Ensure not just that they learn but they want to learn.
