Continuing with the common thread found in most units so far, balance is key. A textbook or workbook is not a bad thing. It can be helpful when grammar worksheets are needed, or word searches, crossword puzzles, fill in the blanks, etc. It's also helpful for general ideas on where your class should be taken. However, you must keep in mind every class is unique and books are not one size fits all. Textbooks are a nice tool to have. But they are not the lesson. It will not keep students captivated. Be creative and make your own activities to reflect the interests and needs of the class. Find passages and videos and music that will appeal to your students. If they find the topics relevant to themselves they will be much more interested in participating.
