In this unit we reviewed the best methods to handle a beginners class and a business class. There are many categories a beginner can fall into. There is the absolute beginner which is when they have no knowledge of English at all. There is a false beginner. Which is when students may have been exposed to English in the past but have not retained any of it. There is the adult beginner- these students are typically highly motivated as they chose to be there. There is the young beginner which often did not chose to be there so lack motivation. They do however pick up the language faster than an adult. Lastly, there is a beginner without the Roman alphabet. These you can argue are the true beginners and will need a lot of initial work on basic literacy skills. Ultimately the same content is going to be taught to all beginners no matter which category they may fall but the method in which you teach the content should change depending on your student's interests and needs. One may else end up being a one on one teacher. These are a lot easier to tailor your lessons for your student's needs but it can also limit their ability to practice what they learn. As the teacher is the only person they can communicate with during a class. How you teach a child is also different than how you would teach an adult. But keep in mind adults like games and color too. When teaching children you just have to make sure to continuously change things up a bit so you can keep their short attention spans on you. Also, a lot more repetition is effective with children. When teaching a class tailored for business people make sure to begin with a questionnaire so you know exactly what is needed and expected from you.
