Teaching English is not merely educating students the rules and guidelines that revolve around the language. Teaching English, or any other subjects, also entails being able to manage and control the class. Classroom management, voice and gestures, students' groupings, teacher talk time, student talk time, giving instructions, and maintaining discipline are other significant and important aspects one should consider as a teacher. The moment a teacher steps in the classroom, he or she will never really know what would happen or how the class will be. As a teacher, we need to be well prepared to handle such situations with ease. It creates a great relationship and rapport if a teacher understands where a student is coming from. Also, it would create a sense of trust on the part of the students knowing that someone can understand them and support them. We have to create an environment where a student can feel a sense of belongingness regardless if the student wants to work alone or not. The teacher should always be in control but should also promote collaboration, cooperation, participation, and student interactions in class. As teachers, we should also know how to limit ourselves in talking. We should be able to create an atmosphere where students can freely speak their thoughts without any hesitation. Managing a class and maintaining discipline are all dependent on how a teacher shows efficiency, punctuality, preparation, patience, consistency and enthusiasm. With these, we build a conducive environment and a more enthusiastic student that is very much willing to learn.
