There are various ways teachers evaluate their students progress and language skills. They can use tutorials, evaluations, and tests. The various tests are Placement tests used at the beginning of a course in order to gauge each students language skill to place them in the correct level. This can be done with a written test, an oral test, or multiple choice. Progress tests are used periodically throughout the class to see what has been learned and what needs more practice. Some teachers don't like these tests but usually schools require them. Diagnostic tests are similar to progress tests but are more involved. Practice tests are designed to test the students on the language they've been practicing.
