The unit very clearly explained the three main tasks a good English class must achieve: 1/ to teach vocabulary; 2/ to teach grammatical structures and 3/ to teach language functions.
Giving an example of a lesson structure focused on each one of them, with a definite lesson objective, is extremely helpful.
For the Activate stage, I particularly like the idea of the chain story communication game. I often use it in my classes, as students perceive it as fun rather than study. It helps them relax and really bring out more of what they already know.
