This unit talks about how neglected pronunciation is in the English classroom. This is probably due to lack of confidence in foreign teachers, so Applied Phonetics are hardly ever taught. A good reason for not wanting to tackle this is that there are different ways to pronounce words depending on what country you come from. Most pronunciation tends to concentrate on individual sounds. Although this seems logical, it is not the case. As a consequence, this unit explores the different aspects of pronunciation. We delve into the definition of Phonology, Intonation, Stress and the teaching techniques of these areas in the classroom. The unit shows us how to produce the different sounds of the language. It also gives us the different phonemic symbols, articulation of the mouth organs to be able to produce sounds and their different names.
