There are four basic skills that need to be addressed when learning a new language; listening , speaking, reading and writing. The unit gives us the main reasons for reading and listening, which are for a purpose and for entertainment. Problems with listening and reading are also addressed. Language can present problems to English learners, therefore we need to pre-teach vocabulary and also careful selection of texts is important. Topics are also essential to create interest among our students. Comprehension tasks are a must so we can see how much our students are understanding the language presented.
In general terms, all these points mentioned above are necessary to keep in mind to be able to teach receptive skills in a better way.
