This lesson explained how to teach productive skills (speaking and writing). I learned that speaking skills are taught more often than writing skills in ESL class rooms and writing skills are often given as homework which can be problematic. I learned that both skills are equally important and should be given the same amount of time when taught to the students. Speaking skills are taught by encouraging students to speak, picking an interesting topic, focusing on accuracy during the study phase and focusing on fluency during the activate phase of the lesson. Writing skills are taught through the use of creative writing either through individual assignments or in pairs. Finally I learned that games in the classroom are appropriate at any age and are a great way to get students more involved in the lesson.
