This purpose of this unit was to familiarize the educator with the methods and principles of effective teaching techniques. It provides methodologies which have specific purposes in order to expose the students to the language, for the students to receive a certain amount of input from the teacher along with communicative tasks and a good dose of encouragement. Using a variety of elicitation techniques provides the learners with a stimulating amount of practice as well as having an enjoyable experience when doing so. The focus of this unit was the Engage, Study and Activate stages for any given lesson plan which is the most effective and logical. To engage the students is to arouse their curiosity and get them involved ensuring that this reduces inhibitions and builds a more conducive learning environment. To study means that the students will focus on the language or information being taught and how it is constructed. To activate means that the students are encouraged to use all the language they know, they are to use it as freely and constructively as they want. There are many ideas for each stage and each have specific purposes and attributable games to maximize the process of learning. Overall, the methods of teaching are a guideline to conduct in the classroom. With a healthy amount of encouragement, corrections and analysis the student and teacher relations should keep pace with new information. Feedback on these methodologies is essential and builds a good working standard for each individualized class. The purpose of these theories, methods and techniques is to help the students formulate natural language ability.
