In unit 6 we get a video based contrast between the effective teaching practices of an English classroom. In video one we have the English instructor whose character is that of a quick speaking, somewhat rude, unclear and impatient instructor. This first video really was a clear example of how not to conduct the classroom environment in a meaningful way. The class looked like it felt discouraged and unmotivated to learn. Based on how the teacher handled incorrect answers from the students, most would have been discouraged from volunteering to answer questions. Lesson two was definitely more effective than lesson one for several reasons. First, lesson two was clearly more structured and well prepared than lesson one. The teacher was more engaging and encouraging in lesson two which boosts confidence and allows students to get in their comfort zone to learn effectively. The instructor was using simple language making it easier to understand and participate. Flashcards and body language were also utilized which made it more interesting for students. In conclusion, the most apparent thing than anything else is the behavior and attitude of the teacher when giving instruction. A positive and encouraging method of teaching gives the students a far greater advantage to learn and promotes a sense of joy that comes with the development of language. Positive traits attract positive results while negative traits only bring negativity to the lesson and participation is ineffective. These videos provide great contrast and give clear examples of how to think about the role as an instructor.
