I learned that pronunciation is hard for english speaking students. Reading by 'sounding out' is problematic, as many words with similar spellings have different pronunciations, there are words with the same spelling and different pronunciations, and there are words with the same pronunciation but different spellings. The phonetic alphabet is a useful tool to demonstrate the pronunciation of different words. I learned about the parts of the mouth responsible for different articulation, as well as the way air is channeled to create these sounds. There are several ways to teach pronunciation, and teachers address the issue with different techniques.
