Sentences beginning with 'if' are conditional. They are always in two clauses, showing that one situation is dependent on another. A clause always contains a subject word and verb. We use zero conditional sentences to say that something is generally true. For example 'If you cool water below 0 degrees, it freezes. We use the first conditional for a situation that's quite possible and realistic but still dependent on something else. 'If you aren't nice to me, I'll leave. the secon conditional is a structure we use to express something that's hypothetical, imaginary or unlikely. 'if you won the national lottery, what you would buy first?'. The third contitional probably the most difficult structure to learn. We use it to express regrets and imagine how things would be if something different had happened. For example 'If I had known the shop was closed , I wouldn't have come.'
