The sequential ESA methodology is a good framework for a new teacher to follow when making their lesson plan.
A lesson plan is an aid to help the teacher decide the learning goals and what she hopes the students to achieve by the end of the lesson. This can be invaluable for the new teacher as a logical means by which a teacher can divide the time available into slots of learning time in order to sequentially move through the lesson and to achieve their planned outcomes. Although not a rigid structure that has to be followed at all times it can act as an aid memoir throughout the lesson to give a kind of road map that can be referred to as the lesson progresses.
The lesson plan can be reviewed after the lesson to see what did and did not work and can help improve the nest lessons. It also acts as a method of record keeping and overview to look back on and review throughout the year. If a another teacher is needed to cover the lesson they would be able to look to the lesson plans to see what had been covered that year and what they could build on.
