The attitude of the teacher in a classroom is very important. Not only do they need to engage their students they need to encourage, monitor, check, give positive feedback, explain fully and know that each student is understanding what is asked of them. There are multiple requirements of a teacher throughout the stages of the lesson. There is no time to arrive late, check their phone, look out of the window or act disinterested in their pupils for if this were the case those pupils would read the teachers body language and feel that their needs were unimportant and therefore would more than likely become disinterested in the class themselves.
The class that were being taught in both the video lessons were doing their best to stay engaged and participate in the lesson but were often left confused during the first lesson because of the teachers lack of clear explanation and jumping straight into activities with no regard for the pupils understanding. His feedback was also very negative which effectively made the pupils less inclined to have a go at speaking the language for themselves. So, although the pupils were willing to engage with the lesson they were left bewildered and confused and effectively did not fully engage with the lesson.
