Testing is a method by which a teacher can monitor his students level at entry, their progress throughout the course and their final knowledge and ability to pass an external exam.
At entry to the course the diagnostic testing provides a good method of placement for students. The teacher can place her students at the correct skills-set level for each individual student providing a favourable environment for each student to begin with. Those students that are more proficient in their language, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and speaking skills will not become disinterested and bored finding themselves in a lower ability class and the lower level students will be able to progress from their level upwards with no fear of being left behind by the rest of the group. The entry level diagnostic testing is a useful all round exercise in placing students correctly.
Students like to know how they are progressing and teachers need to know that their teaching methods are working, so continuous assessment from week to week ensures a reliable method of understanding.
