When conducting a class, a textbook and supporting materials can be used to engage students and keep their interest in learning English. It removes a lot of pressure from the teacher to produce a whole new syllabus from the beginning and produces new ways to review things that have been taught in previous lessons. Teaching materials can either be authentic or created and each option has its advantages. Depending on the skill level of the students an appropriate choice should be made on which sort of materials are needed. Paired together they can allow the teacher to teach from the textbook and provide new material that would meet the needs of the student better.
