This lesson was on pronunciation and phonetics. As a native English speaker, we don't give a thought as to how our own language sounds until we are teaching it to children. Most children are very self-conscious about how they sound when they speak a foreign language and as such wish to have a native level pronunciation. In this lesson, it is shown how teachers of English as a second language can accomplish this. Through knowing the particularities of speaking with regard to pronunciation, that includes linking, dropping a letter, changing a letter, or adding a letter we can teach students that what is written is often time not heard. Students can, therefore, improve their listening skills and practice these skills when they are reading and apply them when they are conversing with others after much practice. Sometimes students may wish to know how to pronounce a certain word that they don't know and the international phonetics would assist them in the correct way as although international speakers stress various parts of the word, the pronunciation is at its core the same all around the world and thus the student would be understood anywhere regardless of accent. The sounds are based on how the word sounds when said and can be taught using the classic such as tongue twisters or using diagrams or models. It is tricky but having a solid understanding of this would befit student tremendously as they continue their education.
