Unit 6 has provided a great deal of information in regards to professional development. As a teacher of the English language in a foreign country, a plethora of considerations are in order to be successful as an educator and to survive, and thrive. The main point in teaching abroad from my experience and discernment, is that we bring not only a high level of understanding in the English language, but a cultural and personal element to each student we come into contact with. We must be our best in everything we do in front of our students. We must present ourselves professionally and honestly. Cultural sensitivity and respect are key to some level of integration into that society. Therefore having an understanding gained from research prior to arriving in that country can pay big dividends in terms of reducing the phenomenon known as "culture shock." The expression that comes to mind is "Knowledge is power." Indeed it is in terms of cultural knowledge and living abroad. This unit presented a long list of professional organizations and other online resources including potential university master programs that will be greatly beneficial in the near future. I am grateful for having taken this course and hope the fruit of my labor benefits my students directly. Thank you ITTT!
