Unit one gave a brief overview on the principals and ideologies of what good teachers and learners are, and do. As a teacher, one should not only focus on the role that they play in class but also the students and the content they are teaching. The teacher has to assess each students’ reason for learning a new language and provide an environment that is instructive, encouraging, and understanding. The teacher juggles many roles, finding a delicate balance so that the students are able to complete activities or receive proper instruction on usage and pronunciation. However, if the teacher does not manage the class properly such as taking control of the activities in organizing the students, the class may fall into disarray and learning may be limited. At the same time the classroom should allow the student to be engaged, ready and willing to listen to the language, feel confident in asking questions of the teacher and expressing themselves in the target language. Content must be appropriate neither to out discourage or bore the student learning. Based on the information provided, students fall into different categories of mastery based on where they are located and may be subjective. Overall, what I have taken from the unit is that a teacher has to be mindful of the needs and attitudes of each student and met them individually and as a group to ensure the students positive learning experience for a child, teen or adult.
