This Unit addresses professional development, and includes several topics to help teachers further their career. These topics include cultural considerations to be aware of when teaching in a foreign country, and when teaching students in or from other countries, seeking and keeping employment, professional development from certifications and exams, professional organizations for teachers of English as a foreign language, and a webliography of resources and contacts. This section was very useful and provided me with many resources for professional development. Many of these I was aware of, as I currently teach ESL to preschoolers in China. I attended university in China prior to teaching there, and have a Minor in Chinese History and Culture, but I am always eager to learn more, so I had read the "Lonely Planet" guide on China. But I did not know about the "Culture Shock" series, which sounds very informative. I also found the web sites very useful, and will definitely use those in the future. The example of a resume was also helpful. Although I am 43 and have written many resumes in my career, it has been a long time since I wrote one and I am not familiar with the current 'trends' in resumes!
