In English teaching, there are four basic skills: reading, listening, writing and speaking. For listening and reading skills are receptive, while writing and speaking skills are productive skills. But every skill is equally important. In this unit I learnt about receptive skills.
As for beginners, listening is more difficult than reading, because students can read the article more than one time and can see the structure of sentences which will help them understand, but when they listen an article, they don’t have time to deduce the meaning and if they don’t understand the sentences they’ll miss it which will to frustrated our students.
And we should be careful to choose suitable teaching materials which could be authentic materials or non- authentic materials. Using texts that will interest and motivate the students. If there are new vocabularies they need to know, Pre-teaching difficult language before the students start reading is very important. In the end of class the students can share their own opinions with partners.
