It's important to establish rapport among the students and with the teacher, and this can be done in the first class using warmer activities. Most teachers tend to try and teach to the majority, so inevitably there will be some students who learn at a slower, or at a faster pace. It is then helpful to pair stronger students with weaker, and/or to have additional activities for those who finish work more quickly than others.
