This unit covers details to consider before designing teaching materials, and how to introduce them to the class. It also covers advantages and disadvantages of course books, and using the options of ‘omit, replace, supplement, and adapt’ to improve the course book material when necessary, as well as the importance of and structure of a lesson plan.
I learned about the advantages of using authentic materials in the classroom as well as ways to minimize behaviour problems, such as using voice, gesture, eye contact, students’ names, clear and simple instructions, and getting to know the students’ interests.
