Using a coursebook when teaching English is a safe and conventional technique yet it does not provide the extra stimulation the students need from additional materials when learning English. Authentic materials such as films, newspapers, magazine articles, radio recordings can be used after they have been monitored by the teacher to fit the students' needs. Created materials such as crosswords, puzzles, flashcards, gap-fill activities (created by the teacher) can also be used to supplement the already existing coursebook. The additional materials can be adjusted to meet the specific interests and levels of the students as well as bearing elements from their culture and age-group. This makes the class more interesting and relevant to students. When the material is interesting, the students will be more eager to participate in class. It is also crucial for the teacher to analyze the coursebook that is going to be used in class and choose the best fit for the students.
