Unit 11: Teaching receptive skills' is focused on the problems and difficulties that teachers and students are likely to come across in a lesson that is focused on reading and listening skills.
The unit firstly covers the reasons why we read and listen, and then moves on to identify how we do so, which is more than just using our eyes and ears and is further dissected into specialist skills that are used to understand context of what we read/listen to.
Moreover, the unit identifies the problems with reading or listening and provides a number of ways for approaching language difficulties. In addition, the unit gives a an example for a typical receptive skills lesson (Patchwork lesson)
The unit ends with the basic keys to successful receptive skill lessons and a few sample classroom material that can be used in teaching receptive skills.
