I learned in this unit that authentic materials are ones that have been produced for a purpose outside of the classroom and that non-authentic materials are those that were made to be teaching aids. Lesson planning plays a crucial part of being prepared for a lesson because it helps the teacher not only manage the time used in the classroom, but also keeps a record of what the students have learned, and what did or did not work for for a classroom. In regards to classroom management, I was always told to be strict at the beginning with the rules, which follows along the lines of rigid teacher control, in order to avoid losing control of the class. Then as students have learned appropriate classroom behavior, moving on to a controlled but active classroom environment is good, but making sure to be firm with the rules/discipline if a student breaks a rule.
