There are four present tenses in English. The present simple is used to express habits and truths. The present continuous describes actions happening in the present moment. The present perfect is used for actions that began in the past and are still occurring. Present perfect continuous is used to connect the past with the present, ongoing actions that will continue or a recently completed activity with a present result. Relearning the tenses has been the most difficult part of the course so far. I have never before thought about the specific usages of each aspect of this verb tense, such as present simple expressing truths or habits or that we can categorize the negative vs affirmative vs interrogative. It has definitely been interesting to revisit the technicalities of grammar for the first time in decades.
