This unit introduces different teaching methodology, but focuses on the ESA methodology. ESA can take a straight arrow, boomerang, or patchwork approach. ESA method is engage, study, activate. Engage stage is when the teacher gets the students excited about and warmed up to a topic, encouraging lots of participation. Study focuses on learning new language with explanations and drilling. Activate is when students use all the language they know, old and new concepts, without correction or interruption from the teacher. I found all the examples of activities listed in this chapter to be very useful. I also appreciated the explanation of mistakes and errors and how to approach each during a lesson, specifically how to be sensitive in correcting as to not embarrass or discourage students.
