This unit introduces the roles and characteristics of both teachers and learners. A breakdown of levels of language proficiency are provided. I found the pros and cons section on teaching different levels and ages to be interesting especially as I am not sure what type of student I will want to teach. I wish there were more examples of the six proficiency levels. The descriptions, in my option, did not fully capture what each level looks like. Additionally I am not sure, at least at this point, how useful the levels are in a practical way. Will I use them to select textbooks or curriculum? Overall, I found this chapter useful as I start to think about actually teaching. I realize how many roles I will undertake, and how the teacher and student relationship is completely dynamic and fluid, not one size fits all, as changes with every single student, lesson, and class.
