Unit 5: Managing the Classroom was a unit on, you guessed it, managing a classroom. It began with listing ways a teacher can attract or repel students’ attention (eye contact, voice and gestures), and later in the unit tied it to how these things can impact rapport and discipline.
The most useful aspect of this unit (for me) was the organisation of the classroom, and what considerations need to be taken to ensure the best setup is selected. As the pros and cons of each arrangement were described, I envisioned how that would look, and compared it to past classrooms that I have been in. There is definitely an art and a science to it.
