According to the information presented in this unit, there are various sources that may be use for TEFL classroom instruction. They are: authentic material, created material, and the course textbook. Authentic material refers to the use of sources not directly related to the teaching of English but they may be used for that purpose (e.g. newspapers, recordings, menus, advertisements, etc.) However, the teacher needs assess that all gathered materials are proper for his/her students level, interests and that it pertains to the topic at hand. There is also the use of created material and just as the name points out, it is created or designed by the teacher to replace or supplement material from the course book. Although it is encouraged that teachers use creative material in addition to or in place of the textbook, the most widely used of all sources for classroom instruction, for new and inexperienced teachers, more than a book, it is teaching guide. In my opinion, a good teacher can and should be able to integrate all three sources into their lesson plans, interchangeably, to keep the students engaged and to make the class more interesting.
