This unit demonstrated two lesson videos. One was successful and the other video was not successful. The first video was not a good lesson because it was disorganized, rushed, and the explanations were not clear. The second video showed a good lesson--one which was clearly planned and well-executed.
The only distraction in both lessons was the squeaky marker, but sometimes there is nothing that can be done.
The first video showed a teacher who was mumbling, asking questions to one person but taking someone else's answer, not defining words, not monitoring, checking his phone, rushing students after only one minute of the five minute exercise had passed. The teacher had no eye contact, no rapport with the students, no patience. He got a bit angry and was intimidating during the lesson--even calling a group losers. He also ended with a bad experience with the game pieces falling on the floor.
The second video showed a teacher who exuded confidence, smiled, and was keen to make sure everyone was properly introduced before anything started. The example was clearly on the board--had been written there before class started. He actually integrated a study phase subtly into the Engage part by eliciting answers while at the same time explaining key points. The teacher was well prepared, not rushed (though they finished right after the game), and kept making eye contact with everyone.
The second lesson was clearly the more professional one.
