This unit looks at speaking and writing as productive skills. A major focus of this unit is looking at fluency versus accuracy. When practicing speaking and writing both fluency and accuracy are very important skills however depending on which one is the focus at that point during the class, depends on whether the teacher should correct and interrupt the student. During an accuracy activity, the purpose is for the language, grammar and vocabulary to be correct, and therefore if the student is using it wrong, this is the time when the teacher should step in and correct the student. During a fluency activity, the idea is for the student to be as creative as they want and for them to use their knowledge of the language as smoothly as they can. Therefore, at this time, as long as it is not a major and repetitive error, the teacher should allow the student to finish by not interrupting their 'flow'.
