I have gained a lot from the grammar components of this course. As a native speaker, I have never received much formal instruction regarding the english language. As a result, I know how to use english but would not have been able to dissect and explain the patterns and structures that make up the language. I really enjoyed learning more about the english language in a way that I think will allow me to explain it to others.
I think the advice and knowledge about elements of teaching that were provided in the course material and by my tutor were invaluable. I found the ‘Engage, Study, Activate’ teaching framework really useful, and can see how I can use this to develop lessons in real life. Doing lesson plans throughout the course was also really valuable as it helped me to think more practically and realistically about classroom situations and how I will work in them.
From here, I hope to find work teaching english in the Middle East. What I’ve learnt in this course will be the basis for me beginning my foray into english-teaching, and I plan to keep all my course materials and notes as important reference materials! I can see myself referring back to these, and other reference materials, when I come across problems or get stuck for ideas.
