I have gained much from this course that will be beneficial to me for years to come. First of all, I gave gained a general knowledge of TEFL that I did not have before; I did not have a teaching degree, and although I like to teach, I did not know how to go about it! This course has helped me to understand the basics of lesson planning and course goals, as well as textbook use. I have especially benefited from knowing that the textbook is a help and a guide but not to be used exclusively. A good teacher will appeal to her student's needs and interests in activities beyond the textbook. Second, I have been given a thorough run-through in basic grammar that I dearly needed. I like writing, and english in general, but I have always been weak in knowing the “why” of it. Although the work in verb tenses was difficult, it will help me to explain it to students who have no idea “why”! Third, and probably the most helpful thing I have learned, is classroom activity ideas. When a person doesn't know where to start, he or she will be very grateful for a few fun warm-up ideas! I would love to be able to organize all the ideas presented into one folder for easy reference. I greatly appreciate the fact that with each new idea in this course, ideas for how to teach it are presented. That helped me a lot. I am excited to use what I have learned in a classroom of my own!
