Past Tense is a bit different with the structure of present tense. In the Past tense, we must change the attitude of the verb such as want - wanted (regular verb/ present to past) bring - brought (irregular verb/ present to past) In teaching Past tense, it will beneficial to the learners if the teacher will explain the usage and the difference between structures by giving examples. Past simple What did you do yesterday? affirmative: I visited my friend yesterday. negative: I did not go to the park yesterday question: Did you go to the park yesterday? Past continuous What were you doing yesterday? affirmative: I was walking in the park yesterday. negative: I was not cycling in the park yesterday. question: Were you cycling in the park yesterday? Past Perfect affirmative: I bought an umbrella when the rain had stopped. negative: The rain had not stopped, I bought an umbrella from the nearby shop. question: Had the rain stopped? Past perfect continuous affirmative: It had been raining very hard, the roads were wet. negative: It had not been raining, the roads were too dry. question: Had it been raining hard for a long time?
