De Rust, Western Cape TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
This chapter focuses on the past tense--which is just as complicated as present tense--but follows a recognizable pattern that makes the concept easier to pick up on. Words in the 'present' were not too far from the words of the 'past'; 'has' going to 'had', 'do' turning to 'did', etc. The greatest realization of this chapter was that the ways the tenses are used is not as important as the structure in which they are used. Instead of looking at an example and thinking about what category it falls beneath, I can deduce that if a sentence uses 'was', it will be in Past Continuous, because that's the only structure that uses that word. I will continue to study the uses, but its nice to fully understand that there is a much simpler way. Hopefully students will see this as well.
