The Classroom Management section has provided many tools for nuanced class control. Eye contact, voice inflection, shape of desks--all so seemingly trivial and yet can turn the tide of the environment. This section stresses the focus of balance, tip-toeing the line of the teacher talking too much or the students dominating the conversation. With each progressive chapter I have become more aware that teaching is a balancing act, and we have to be highly aware of it in order to succeed. What is most useful about this chapter, I feel, is the explicit instructions on how to correct bad behavior within the classroom. I'm certain this is a hesitant area for new teachers, and has been on the back of my mind since I started courses. Acting immediately, following up threats, keeping calm--all methods that are extremely useful and effective (in theory). This chapter has shown that there are a variety of ways to win control of your class, none of which require yelling or having a mental breakdown. It's fantastic.
