Unit 1 preludes future lessons with a thorough and comprehensive preparation for the challenges of what is to come. Not only does it explore the desired characteristics of teachers--high energy, enthusiasm, knowledge, patience, etc.--but also their versatile roles--Manager, Tutor, Facilitator, and so-on--within the classroom. The diversity of students was, perhaps, the most eye-opening section. Each having their own difficulties (such as adults having less malleable minds, or kids with short attention spans) gives perspective on how necessary tailoring a section for each group is. Motivations is also a key ingredient, as adults often are more motivated by travel, work, or passion for language, whereas young learners are often there because they had to be. All this, on top of what level of language they are (Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, etc), create a unique and special blend for every scenario. These factors--which I prior hadn't even conceived--have inspired me to be more mindful of all types of students and what they require.
