This unit covered materials used in the classroom: course books, real-life (authentic) materials, and created materials, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of each. I found that my thoughts resonated with most, if not all, that was covered in this unit. I am fortunate in that the course books I use are specific to the country my learners are from. This is advantageous in that it provides materials that students may need for extra practice as the native language is very different from English. That said, I still have times when I need to omit or adapt items that are incorrect or a misinterpretation of Western culture. There are also some issues with vocabulary and phrases being from multiple English-speaking countries that I need to research to correctly inform my students of where they are used. This unit was a nice refresher on what to consider for materials and their use.
