In this unit, I learnt some different ways to evaluate students' levels and progress, which can be really useful to make sure most students achieve their learning goals. There are some different ways to assess a student's language, such as Tutorial, Evaluation by students and Test.
Tutorial is usually for a small group of students. It is important for teachers to conduct tutorials in the last 10 minutes. However, most of the classes in China have more than 30 students and that means Tutorial is not really suitable for China to evaluate student' level and progress. Most of the Chinese schools will choose Text as the most effective way.
Before the students start their English study, they need to finish the Placement test to know the right level which can help both students and teachers choose the best way to continue the courses. After that, students need to take the Diagnostic texts as the beginning of their courses.
Some of the students are going to take some external exam such as TOFEL and IELTS, so teachers need to provide Practice tests which should be similar with the real exam.
Evaluating by students is also a good way. Teachers can ask students to do a survey to get their comments and feedback, which can help teachers have a better know of their students.
