Chinese and English is totally different especially the grammar, which means we need to pay more attention to the tense of English. There is so many different tense in English which can not find in Chinese. That is also the biggest challenge for Chinese students.
As a EFL teacher, we should have a clear idea about what they are and what the different is. Only if we know clear about that, we can teach students and help them current their mistakes.
However, we shouldn't just tell them the right grammar point. Grammar and tense should be taugh by the basic language. Let students learn how to express first and then use different tenses in different situations, and of course, avoid the main mistakes.
There's one more thing which is really important for students---confident. Students shouldn't be afraid of making mistakes because everyone has mistakes when they are learning a new language. For teacher, when and where to current mistakes for students are really essential. Students in lower levels may avoid to talk a lot and afraid of making mistakes, what we should do is to encourage them to talk.
So in my opinion, we can teach grammar and tense at the same time with speaking and learning. The students can get a better chance to speak and understanding about English.
