Being a teacher is first and foremost about communicating information in a way that it can be received by the student. In order to make this effective (and efficient), I think understanding the importance of receptive skills as an educator is essential.
I specifically liked the relevance of selecting appropriate texts for the students. Non-authentic texts that interest them would be far more useful in engaging and making the students feel successful at reading and understanding than an authentic text - like Jane Austen!
I’m looking forward to applying my understanding of receptive skills learnt in this chapter in the classroom.
