I enjoyed the fact that this unit provides a clear distinction between the different structures that can be employed to deliver an ESL class.
I definitely resonate with the use of the ‘patchwork’ structure, as when I recall my own learning of a foreign language, similar structures were used by the teacher and it is empowering as a student to leave a class having already seen immediate results from the week’s learning.
I also agree that the use of activities to ‘liven up’ the study phase is important. I think it would be very easy for the lesson to fall into a rut should an instructor purely just defer to a worksheet every time.
I definitely feel I will employ these techniques and structures as part of my teaching arsenal.
