The Country

Ireland is a tough place for obtaining English teaching jobs for anyone from outside of the country, and especially hard for those whom are not EU passport holders. For the most part, your best chances of securing a position teaching English in Ireland are in Dublin, but keep in mind that it is a very expensive city. There are cheaper places than the Dublin area, but then there is little work. Dublin has quite a few language schools. You can get a job teaching English here but it may not be consistent or pay very well to match living expenses.

There are TEFL teaching positions in private language schools, colleges and universities in Ireland. The peak season for getting a job teaching English in Ireland is from June through to September, during the summer holiday months. If you have an EU passport, you can find work in Ireland without having to secure a visa. The Student Work Abroad Program is another option for securing permission to work in Ireland. The best way to start your job search is to start sending out your cv to language schools, all of which are located on the web. Once you have done this and have started getting replies, be prepared to go in for a face-to-face interview.
