Unit 9 presents several aspects of how to plan lessons. Although lesson planning might create more fixed, teacher centred lessons, it is also true that less experienced teachers will have difficulty to be flexible and adapt to the needs of students in every situation. So, the writing of lesson plans is a useful tool with a number of important function:
1. An aid to planning: writing down the objectives and expectations of any particular lesson is a good way to think through the several lesson
stages and how they can be distributed within the available time.
2. A working document: a well written plan can be used as a reference during the lesson and help you to keep on target. However, the teacher should
be able to alter and flexibly adapt in real time any plan to the needs of the class.
3. A record: A lesson plan is also a record that can be used for future reference, either by you or by a substitute teacher.
Unit 9 gives some suggestions on how to write a lesson plans and what to include in them. It also provides two standard lesson plan formats, one completed with an example and another empty one that can be printed and use as one might wish.
